Two California Highway Patrol dispatchers, Thomas O’Donnell, 39, and Aaron Reich, 30, had links to the release of the nine crime scene photos. The CHP apologized to the family. Resultantly, the CHP suspended O’Donnell for 25 days without pay in response. Plus, Reich left his job for unrelated reasons. These pictures of the crime scene have since gone viral and can now be found on tens of thousands of websites. Despite their best efforts, the family has been unable to get them taken down from the Internet. In the end, they filed a lawsuit against the authorities for negligence, invasion of privacy, and infliction of emotional harm. It was because they had no other options.
